eDGEALPHIX Open Source / Systems Engineering & Kernel Development

Project EdgeOS

EdgeOS is an independently engineered operating system kernel initiative developed by EdgeAlphix Engineering. Designed as a standards-aligned, Linux-compatible execution environment, EdgeOS implements full ring3 user-space isolation, multi-user architecture, Unix permission semantics, and high syscall-level compatibility with modern Linux software. The system supports ext4 with extent handling, multi-core scheduling, custom ELF loading, musl-based dynamic linking, and an unmodified BusyBox userland. Networking capabilities include native IPv4 and IPv6 stacks, TCP/UDP, DNS resolution, SSH, TLS-enabled services, and production-grade driver support. Built with reproducible rootfs tooling, container isolation primitives, and ABI-aligned behavior, EdgeOS represents a long-term systems engineering effort focused on infrastructure research, kernel architecture, and execution environment design.

eDGEALPHIX Open Source

initd – Lightweight Init & Service Manager

initd is a lightweight, systemd-compatible init and service management platform designed for containerized, cloud-native, and embedded Linux environments. It executes unmodified systemd service definitions while removing systemd’s heavy runtime dependencies, providing a consistent and predictable operational model across minimal, virtualized, and resource-constrained systems.

Built for modern infrastructure stacks, initd can operate either as a full PID 1 init system or as a standalone service supervisor. It provides lifecycle management, signal handling, service orchestration, and controlled system shutdown behavior without relying on D-Bus, journald, or complex subsystem integration. Communication is implemented through a minimal Unix socket interface, prioritizing clarity, portability, and auditability.

initd enables operators and platform engineers to retain familiar systemctl workflows while deploying into environments where traditional systemd assumptions do not apply, including containers, chroot environments, embedded devices, lightweight virtual machines, and custom Linux distributions. The design emphasizes deterministic behavior, low overhead, and infrastructure-grade reliability suitable for distributed and edge computing deployments.
